Friday, 10 August 2007Oh! I do like to be beside the seaside
During the 19th century an underground grotto made of shells was discovered in Margate, Kent. No one knows for sure who created it and why, though possibilities include the Romans or pagan worshippers. Another puzzle is that the shells are attached to the walls using a volcanic cement, yet there are no volcanoes in the UK.After our visit to the grotto we decided to take advantage of the sunny climate and sandy beach. We ate lunch, went for a swim and relaxed until the sun went down. One of our group noted that it had been at least 3 years since he had been to the seaside. |
